About Burkle

Burkle is a potent, luxurious indica that has serious consumer appeal.

A cross between staple hybrid Pre-98 Bubba Kush and either Purple Urkle or Granddaddy Purple, Burkle has a strong indica backbone that lends it a heavy body high.

The strain also has a complex flavor profile that enhances its deeply relaxing effects and may just have nabbed it the title of 3rd Best Indica flower at the 2016 High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver. Burkle’s THC content has been measured at levels of between 15% and 27%.

Burkle’s stunning flowers are larger than average and adhere in chunky, rounded shapes. These leafy spheres have an unmistakably indica internal structure, with small, wide leaves that spiral tightly inward to form a solid core.

The biggest draw of these buds is in their multicolored leaves, which form a patchwork of yellowish green and deep purple; the latter hues come courtesy of anthocyanin pigments, which create shades of blue and purple when exposed to cold weather during the growing process. Finally, Burkle is capped off by glittering which trichomes, which give the flowers a slightly dewy appearance.

Flowers of Burkle carry a predominantly fruity scent, characterized by rich top notes of berry and plum. A deeper whiff of these buds, meanwhile, may also detect some earthy, musky odors, redolent of leather. Grinding up or cracking open the flowers tends to release a rich, peppery aroma that pays tribute to the strain’s Kush lineage. When burnt, Burkle gives off a thick but smooth and easily ingested smoke. On the exhale, this smoke combines flavors of fruit and spice.

Like many other indica-dominant strains, Burkle may require as many as 15 minutes before its effects become obvious. Gradually, smokers will become aware of head-focused sensations like flushing in the cheeks or a twitching around the temples. What follows this initial headrush is a marked change in sensory perception. Smokers may suddenly be prone to mild visual or auditory hallucinations and may experience phenomena like a sense of time passing much more slowly. This trippy mindset may not be the best way to accomplish analytical, detail-oriented work, but it can certainly facilitate deep introspection and daydreaming. Enhanced by ambient media like atmospheric music Burkle’s psychedelic vibe can even spark creative inspiration.

Not long after these sensory effects creep in, Burkle assails the user with progressively heavier physical sensations. A numbing feeling of relaxation that begins at the base of the neck may soon radiate out through the core and limbs, freeing smokers from any earlier stresses or preoccupations. This weighty sedation tends to eliminate any motivations the consumer may have been nurturing; instead, Burkle’s deep body high is best spent lounging on the closest comfortable surface. An enjoyable smoke whether you’re alone or surrounded by like minded friends, Burkle is recommended for nighttime consumption.

Burkle’s heavily sedative effects can have several uses for medical cannabis patients. Its embodied sense of euphoria can relieve the symptoms of stress, depression, anxiety, and even PTSD -- albeit only temporarily. The strain may also dull chronic, disease-related aches, as well as inflammatory pains like cramps and nausea. At high enough doses and in properly relaxed conditions, Burkle may even lull smokers to sleep, making it a potential treatment for insomnia. Because it is not known to induce an obsessive, cerebral state of mind, Burkle may be a good option for patients who are less experienced with THC or who are prone to paranoia.

Unfortunately for home growers, seeds of Burkle do not appear to be available for online purchase. Instead, the strain can be propagated via clippings of mature plants. These “clones” can be grown indoors or out, although outdoor success depends on a humid climate with consistent daytime sunlight and high temperatures in the 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit range.

True to their indica roots, these plants grow short and squat with strong lateral branches. Gardeners who want to bring out the full spectrum of colors in Burkle’s leaves should expose their crops to nighttime temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees below average, just before flowering begins. Burkle is ready for harvest within about 8 to 9 weeks.

This tasty, fragrant indica is an excellent way to wind down at the end of a long day or week of work. Its pleasant aroma may make Burkle of particular interest to terpene fans.
