Cannabis brick worth $3k was a generous but useless gift for this children’s charity

A charity in Springfield, Missouri has received one of its “highest” donations ever after finding a brick of cannabis with an estimated $3000 (approx CAD$3959.1) value in one of their bins. The brick was wrapped carefully in plastic before being dropped in with other donations.

The herbal contribution was discovered as volunteers at Big Brothers Big Sisters were sorting donations last spring, but was publicized this February after being reported in the Ozark office’s monthly newsletter.

A Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member called local police upon discovering the weed.

“There’s no telling who put it there or why,” president of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Think Big Foundation Tyler Moles told the Springfield News-Leader.

Unfortunately, the organization won’t benefit from the highly generous gift.

“That’s the most expensive thing ever put in the bin, and we weren’t able to use it to help the charity,” Moles said, mentioning that they hesitated for a moment before reporting the discovery.

Now Moles is hoping to convert the subsequent publicity into much-needed donations of warm winter clothing for adults and children, which are down during the coldest time of year when they are most needed.

“If they think it’s funny, maybe they’ll put the right thing in the bin,” Moles said.

Moles believes it would be difficult to tell who made the donation, or even to which of the charity’s bins it had been dropped. Police have not named a suspect, and there have been no arrests related to the discovery.

“Weird stuff happens,” Moles said.
