About 2019 Nimbin MardiGrass

The Nimbin MardiGrass is an annual rally & celebration in the tiny village of Nimbin in northern NSW, Australia. Beginning in 1993, MardiGrass is held to protest the drug laws, educate people on the various uses of cannabis (medicinal, industrial, recreational & spiritual) and to celebrate the culture that has grown here over the last 40 years.
Our mission is to bring about change with as much fun as possible.

Indigo Embassy is a music, video and design production studio born of East Coast hip-hop mastermind Tycotic. Since it’s established in 2010 The Embassy has produced hundreds of videos, ranging from underground 1 take spits to multi-media green screen and animated showpieces, some which have been featured on the MTV Australia/ New Zealand television channel. In 2014 Tycotic produced Kerser’s S.C.O.T National Tour DVD, which managed to rank #2 on the ARIA charts; his music video work for Kerser alone also clocking millions of views on YouTube.

This all aussie hip-hop showcase highlights the genre’s strong ties to marijuana culture, selecting the dankest videos from Australia’s East Coast hip-hop community, featuring artists such as Fortay, The Hed Udb, Hyjak, Kerser, Jacquie Lomas, Losty, Nix, Tycotic himself and many more.

A culture of deviance in itself, hip-hop to it’s community is not just a genre of music but a way of life. Drawing on the 4 artistic elements of rapping, DJing, graffiti writing and b-boying, hip-hop has always had strong connections to cannabis and activist cultures, like a connecting puzzle piece in a patch work of unorthodox art societies. Come and immerse yourself in this collection of oz-hip-hop weed anthems, selected specially for the annual Nimbin Mardi Grass and bought to you by The Indigo Embassy.

Well over 1 million cannabis law reform activists in nearly 300 cities around the globe will be protesting. In Nimbin we will once again aim to break our record for the most joints ever lit at once in the same place at the same time. This is a big call now because weed is now legal – for those who enjoy it – in 9 American states and Washington DC. In July 2018, weed for fun, relaxation and creative enhancement will be legal throughout Canada.

Be smart and bring a “joint”! After the last Kombi has passed, wait for the call and we will light up,and produce as much smoke as possible for the cameras recording the event. Viva la Fume!

CANNABIS LAW REFORM RALLY AND PARADE
* Prohibition is an incitement, not a control!

2 PM * GATHER AND GET READY FOR THE MARDIGRASS PARADE
We are here to peacefully protest so please join us for the march either inside the exit of the western car park, across the road from the Grassroots Market, or behind the church at the corner of Thorburn and Cullen Streets. The march is the main event, so please join in!

2:30pm CANNABIS LAW REFORM RALLY
Led by the Widjibal Elders of the Bunjalung Nation, with children holding the Koori flag, the parade this year will start off at 2.30pm from the Western carpark and make its way south along Cullen street where it will turn left and head down past the Town Hall and Greenbank to the Hash Bowl Stage in Plantem Park for the Cannabis Law Reform Rally, speeches and MardiGrass Float Prize presentations. Just follow the GANJA FAERIES and the BIG JOINT!!

Sometimes the parade might stop while the Ganja Faeries up front do a brief performance. This keeps the parade from being too hasty and allows the crowd a better opportunity to take it all in. Everyone wait behind the BIG JOINT until the procession continues. No rush.

Percussionists who have not been practicing with the Ganja Faerie troupe are asked to form a second Drumming Troupe, further back in the parade to provide a continuing accompaniment for the parade. People are asked not to occupy the space between the Ganja Faeries and the first group of Drummers.

When we finish the march there will be short speeches by Bundjalung Elders and guests. Parade Float prizes, and the Legends Tribute winners, will be awarded, followed by more speeches.

This is our twenty seventh consecutive annual Rally for Cannabis Law Reform. We vowed to Rally every year on the first Sunday in May until we are no longer criminals for using this herb!
