Torontonians now have another legal option to purchase weed: A pot shop in posh Yorkville.

Ameri, at 20 Cumberland St., opened its “boutique”  store Sunday to become the second legal marijuana retail operation in Toronto. The first to open was The Hunny Pot on Queen St. W., on April 1.

Sales on Sunday were steady at Ameri. On opening day at The Hunny Pot, the long line of weed buyers went around the corner.

Customers at the Ameri — once checked into the store by security — are able to smell and check out bud under a microscope and choose the level of THC content they desire. Budtenders helped customers select their favourite strains.

“We have something for everyone. For those who want to be relaxed or to get high,” said budtender Panda. Employees at the store only provide a first name over concerns revealing their identities could cause them problems at the U.S. border.

Michael was walking by Ameri and stopped in for a purchase and said he liked the options available.

“I don’t want to be a couch potato. I want to be creative and write or go out and take photos or work in the garden,” Michael said.

Three more government-sanctioned pot shops are slated to open in Toronto.
