The Marysville, Ohio-based company said it had net income of $7.09 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $3.64 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $3.42 per share.
The lawn and garden products company posted revenue of $1.19 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.16 billion.
Scotts expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.10 to $4.30 per share.
Scotts shares have climbed 38% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed roughly 2% in the last 12 months.
