With the production of legal cannabis finally catching up with demand, the outlets of the Société Québécois de cannabis will return to week-long schedules after cutting them to four days a week last autumn.
The SQDC announced on Thursday that beginning Monday, May 20, all of its outlets will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
Meanwhile, a new SQDC store will open its doors in Gatineau on May 22, bringing the total number of branches in the province to 15.
The SQDC network is expected to expand to 43 outlets by the end of March 2020, with branches opening in the next few weeks in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Granby, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, Châteauguay and on Queen Mary Rd. in Montreal.
While the government agency that oversees legal cannabis sales in Quebec acknowledges that supply is still not at full capacity, there is sufficient product now available to return to a seven-day-a-week schedule.
Soon after opening its first branches on Oct. 17, the SQDC found itself struggling with supply problems and was obliged within 10 days to reduce its operating schedules to Wednesday to Sunday.
During the first months of operation, the SQDC was barely able to provide 15 to 20 products at any given time. However it said on Thursday that thanks to the arrival of additional suppliers it can offer customers 40 to 60 products seven days a week.
