Ontario now has a cannabis-themed golf course

Residents of and visitors to Smith’s Falls, Ontario, can look forward to partaking in smoking green on the green this summer.

 

 

Rolling Greens is a cannabis-themed golf course in Lombard, just outside of Smith’s Falls, that allows golfers to light up while they get a few rounds in. With an on-brand motto (“Come roll with us”) and a location just 45 minutes away from Ottawa, owner Gordon Weiske is optimistic that Rolling Greens could become a popular destination for the burgeoning cannabis tourism industry.

Although the golf course is currently a strictly bring-your-own cannabis operation, for now, Weiske is open to onsite cannabis sales. The option is off the table for the time being, however, as the Ontario government has opted to issue 25 retail licenses across the province. It was announced Thursday that the last license had been granted to a shop in Hamilton, meaning the quota has been reached for now.

The combination of golf and cannabis isn’t new, despite Rolling Greens referring to itself as “Canada’s first cannabis-themed golf and entertainment destination.” The Fore20 Golf Tournament has been growing in popularity, and a recent golf poll from British Columbia found that young golfers are particularly open to getting lit on the links–about 78 percent.

Rolling Greens was purchased just a few months ago and was formerly known as the Lombard Glen Golf and Country Club. Golf courses in Canada are one of few businesses in the country where some of the strict regulations that apply elsewhere do not apply and organizations can establish their own rules around cannabis, allowing onsite consumption if they so choose.

The course will throw a soft launch this April 20, with bigger launch events TBA.
