Who would have ever guessed that Martha Stewart and Snoop Doggy Doggâs brownie moment would be the harbinger of massive careers for both in the cannabis industry? Stewart just joined her infamous co-host in partnering with Canopy Growth Corp., one of Canadaâs biggest weed corporations. Through her parent company Sequential Brands Group Inc., Stewart will be helping Canopy to develop a line of CBD products, starting with remedies for animal companions.
In a press release announcing the new partnership, Stewart said she was eager to share with the Ontario company the knowledge sheâs âgained after years of experience in the subject of living.â
Canopy supplies one-third of the countryâs 250,000 medical marijuana patients, according to some sources. It was also the first cannabis company to enter the New York Stock Exchange, and has announced several high profile partnerships in addition to Stewart and her pet aids. Last spring, the company gained exclusive rights to the bud line of Stewartâs mogul, Leaves By Snoop.
Snoop and Martha have long been a favorite pop culture pairing, ever since the emcee made a 2008 appearance on Stewartâs TV show to make mashed potatoes while they talked about Snoopâs then-upcoming Christmas album. A surprising rapport was uncovered and a few years later, Snoop reappeared on the show for an ahead-of-its-time weed brownie episode. Today, they head a weekly celebrity cooking show, andâapparentlyâtrade pointers on business trajectories.
Weed insiders will tell you the two have thrown in their lot with an industry leader. In August, Corona beer parent company Constellation Brands invested $4 billion into Canopy Growth Corp., and the cannabis company began 2019 by announcing its imminent expansion into the States with a $100 to $150 million mega-facility slated to open up in New York.
The addition of Stewart seems to forecast even more incursions into the forefront of marijuana corporate culture for the firm. âAs soon as you hear the name Martha, you know exactly who weâre talking about,â said Bruce Linton, Canopy Growthâs CEO, in a press release. âI am so excited to be able to work alongside this icon to sharpen our CBD product offerings across categories from human to animal.â
Stewart has primed us for this moment: In addition to her heartwarming and ongoing professional pairing with the Doggfather, in a 2018 interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the domestic doyenne talked about offers being tossed her way. âIâve been asked to design recipes and even ointmentsâhealthy ointments for humans as well as for animals, like cats and dogs,â Stewart said. âIâve had two companies recently in my office bringing in very interesting ointments, rubs, and massage creams. I totally believe in that as a supplement to everyday good living.â
Sheâs also on the record as a CBD stan, courtesy of Snoop. In that interview, Stewart told the tale of a big rock falling on her toe when Snoop was over at her house for lunch. He gave her a CBD ointment to help with its healing. âI must tell you, my toe got better within two days,â Stewart said. âThe nail never even turned black or fell off. I think it all had to do with this fantastic ointment that he gave me.â
