48North Cannabis Corp. reports the company has signed what it believes to be the countryâs first-ever letter of intent (LOI) for outdoor grown cannabis with the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC).
Â
Â
As Quebecâs sole legal retailer of recreational cannabis, the agreement calls for 48North to supply 1,200 kg of cannabisâscheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2019âto the SQDC from its Brandt, Ont. outdoor farm, and 120 kg of indoor-grown cannabis from its facilities in the Ontario communities of Brantford and Kirkland Lake. The LOI with the SQDC was signed Feb. 22, 2019 and pertains to calendar year 2019.
The 40-hectare outdoor farm âis expected to produce an estimated 40,000 kg of organic, sun-grown cannabis from over 3.7 million sq. ft. of outdoor cultivation space,â reports the vertically integrated cannabis company focused on the health and wellness market through cultivation and extraction, and creation of brands for next-generation cannabis products.
Â
Â
â48North is reported to be the first Canadian company to apply for an outdoor cultivation licence from Health Canada,â the company statement notes.
âOutdoor, sun-grown cannabis will be essential to the future of the Canadian cannabis industry and 48North is excited to lead the way,â suggests Jeannette VanderMarel, co-CEO of 48North, adding the LOI represents a meaningful step by the company âto respond to market demand and provide a reliable and environmentally sustainable source of production for Quebec.â
In January, 48North Cannabis points out that it âsubmitted its evidence package to Health Canada demonstrating its readiness and is eagerly awaiting approval for its cultivation license in time for the start of the 2019 growing season.â
