Welsh police made a cool find last Sunday with the discovery of an abandoned refrigerator dumped in an alleyway that was stuffed with cannabis.

Authorities in Clarwen, Gelligaer, Caerphilly, are as yet unsure why the cannabis was ditched, given its street value of at least several hundred pounds sterling. No word on whether the fridge itself was in working condition.

Police are appealing to the public for help in the hopes of tracking down the owner of the rogue refrigerator.

“We’re working to break the chain between drug use and crime but we need your help,” said the Gwent police force. “If you’re concerned about drug use or dealing in your area, no matter how small, we want to know.”

Detectives are knocking on doors in the neighborhood and enacting forensic tests on the icebox-turned-stashbox to see if they can track down the origins of the drugs–as well as sending out a cordial tweet requesting more information.

“If anyone has lost a fridge containing a large cannabis plant at the rear of Claerwen, Gelligaer please can you contact Bargoed Community Officers at the Police Station! #leafitalone #adopefind #hashtag,” tweeted Bargoed Officers, who clearly have a sense of humour, on Monday.

Police are requesting that anyone with information about the appliance and the pricy greens contained within its produce drawers contact them as soon as possible, either by through Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, or by dialling 101.

Europe seems to be a goldmine for finding illicit cannabis in odd places these days–from other household fixtures to washing up on shore in Cyprus and Gibraltar.

In Wales, as in the rest of the UK, recreational cannabis remains illegal and is scheduled as a Class B drug.
