Resolve Digital Health reports that Health Canada has granted it what is believed to be the first cannabis-related medical device licence issued under the countryâs new regulatory system for the first of the companyâs family of smart vaporizers.
Resolve notes âthe first of its family of smart vaporizers, the Resolve MD, has been approved by Health Canada for a Medical Device Licence (MDL) for cannabis use,â states a press release from the Canada-based developer of intelligent cannabis solutions and technologies.

The smart vaporizer is designed to assist patients take âcontrol of their healthcare, utilizing technology that ensures consistent dosing and a professional experience,â the statement notes. To make usage as easy as possible, Resolve âis partnering with licensed producers to pre-fill proprietary pods with pre-selected cannabis formulations that are then simply inserted into the device,â the company reports.
An app is also being developed to help patients capture âdata on medical conditions, prescriptions, family history, lifestyle and effectiveness per doseâ in a bid to provide âdata points to improve the medical cannabis treatment experience for patients and caregivers,â Resolve adds.
âBy receiving its licence, the Resolve MD demonstrates it is fully compliant with Health Canadaâs Medical Device Regulations, including satisfying medical device, biological and electrical standards throughout the design and manufacturing of the device,â the company reports.

Â
Through the MDL process, Resolve Digital obtained a Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL), which means the company is approved for distributing the vaporizer for medical purposes. âIt is separate from MDL and is issued for the purpose of importing and selling medical devices for human use in Canada,â the statement explains.
âFor physicians and cannabis patients to be more comfortable with using medical cannabis, thereâs a need to make dosing easier and more transparent,â says Amol Deshpande, a member of Resolveâs Scientific Advisory Board. Licensed medical devices âare focused on filling the void for consistent and standardized inhalational dosing for the medical cannabis industry,â Deshpande notes.
The devices are expected to âbe soon available to medical cannabis patients in Canada,â says Resolve CEO Rob Adelson. âQuality control is crucial for any medical device, and weâre pleased that Health Canada has certified that our device meets their high standards,â Adelson continues.
Building on this approval by Health Canada, the company âintends to obtain similar certifications elsewhere in the world, starting later this year. In particular, the company is especially interested in the European market,â which Prohibition Partners recent forecast could be the worldâs largest medical cannabis market within five years.
