Get educated: Aleafia Health launches cloud-based cannabis education and certifications platform

Employers, unions, educational institutions and insurance and healthcare providers wanting to learn more about cannabis now have access to customized courses through Aleafia Health Inc.’s new cloud-based, cannabis education and certifications platform.

FoliEdge Academy, the newly launched platform built with online learning company, D2L, features proprietary, interactive courses customized for large organizations, reports Aleafia Health, a vertically integrated cannabis company focused on cannabis cultivation and products, health and wellness clinics, cannabis education and consumer experience with e-commerce, retail distribution and provincial supply agreements.

Course content curation is led by Dr. Michael Verbora, Aleafia Health’s chief medical officer and an expert on cannabinoid therapy who has over 4,000 individual patient consultations to date, notes the company statement.

The evidence-based courses—which draw on the company’s 10 million-point medical cannabis dataset—will “form an important element of Aleafia Health’s scalable, cannabis health and wellness ecosystem, integrating with the company’s medical cannabis clinic network with 60,000 patients seen to date,” the press release states.

Introduction of the academy “cements our horizontal diversification strategy and will see Aleafia Health connect with consumers within the large organizations that our educational solution is geared towards,” comments company CEO Geoffrey Benic.

“As the cannabis space continues to evolve, there will be an ongoing need for education and training that both engages and remains flexible and adaptable enough to move with the industry and the needs of large organizations,” D2L president and CEO John Baker says.

Along with the launch, Aleafia Health has named Rob Tyrie as head of FoliEdge Academy. With 20-plus years rolling out insurance technology solutions, Tyrie will be charged with leading “the business development and implementation of the solution with clients, including the integration of FoliEdge Academy courseware within health benefits processing for large insurance providers,” the statement notes.

“FoliEdge Academy is a key pillar for Aleafia Health. As the cannabis market evolves, education of employers, unions, clinicians, medical professionals, patients and consumers is essential to success,” Tyrie adds.
