David Irving, defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, says heâs quitting the NFL.
Irving made the announcement via Instagram Live yesterday, criticizing the leagueâs cannabis policy after receiving an indefinite suspension on Friday for an alleged violation of the policy on substance abuse.

The defensive lineman appeared to be smoking a fat blunt as he delivered his message to fans.
âBasically, guys. I quit,â he said. Â âI know theyâre talking about a suspension and all this other nonsense. Iâm out of there. Iâm not doing this s**t no more.â
This is Irvingâs third suspension in four years, and he railed against the NFLâs anti-cannabis stance for players.
âEveryone thinks itâs about smoking weed. Itâs not about smoking weed. Itâs much bigger than that. Much, much bigger. Hell, I have concussions every day. I get to see around the office how that f***s your head up and I feel it,â he said.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Dallas team in 2015, criticized the ban on cannabis use in the midst of an opioid crisis, noting that cannabis is safer than prescription pills for treating injuries incurred on the field.
âWe got this opioid thing going on and Iâm prescribed all that bullsâ, and I just think itâs bullsâ that weâve got to deal with that policy.â
Irving will become a free agent at the start of the offseason.
