The 21 unionized workers employed at the government-run cannabis outlet in Rosemont have unanimously voted themselves a strike mandate, the Presse Canadienne has learned.

The workers are member of the United Food and Commercial Workers union affiliated with the FTQ labour alliance.

Salaries are at the heart of the labour dispute with management. The employees contend they shouldn’t be treated like they sell any other product, since in addition to selling cannabis they must also advise customers.

Many elements of the contract have already been settled with management over the course of 10 negotiating sessions, but monetary issues remain unresolved.

The UFCW also represents employees at the provincial cannabis outlets in Rimouski and Mirabel, however these branches are not involved with the negotiations at the Rosemont store.
