Swag bags at this yearâs Oscars are going to the weeds.
Gifted to 25 acting and directing nominees, this yearâs USD$100,000 (approx CAD$132,624.50) gift bags will contain hand-made, cannabis-infused chocolate truffles.

The âCrescendo collectionâ truffles, which snagged first place at the High Times Colorado Cup, come in three flavoursâEarl Grey, Juniper Lemon and Burnt Caramel. Each chocolate contains 10mg of THC. The makers advise that users âstart low and go slowâ when consuming the candy, especially if not habitual consumers of the drug.
The gift bags will also come laden with cannabis-infused skincare products and a membership to a pro-cannabis social club in LA. Although cannabis is legal in California, nominees will need to exercise caution if transporting the chocolates out of state, especially to regions that have yet to legalize the use of recreational cannabis.
Celebrity nominees like Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Lady Gaga, Christian Bale and Rachel Weisz will be receiving the bags, which also boast a week at a California spa, a designer toilet plunger, âphobia reliefâ sessions with a so-called expert, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
This yearâs Oscars have been plagued by scandal and controversy, from a now-reversed plan to award some trophies during TV commercial breaks to a lack of host after comedian Kevin Hart dropped out late last year.
Perhaps event organizers are searching for ways to boost publicity for the waning awards show; last yearâs Oscars received its lowest TV ratings ever.
