Alberta Leads Canada in Cannabis Retail Growth

ACCESSWIRE - finance.yahoo.com Posted 5 years ago

HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / March 26, 2019 / Months after legalization, Canada is seeing a sizable cannabis retail boom.

Alberta, for example, already has 75 retail cannabis shops in operation. Newfoundland has 25.

"We have interest in other provinces as well so, when the whole process starting last spring, we were monitoring every province and we were ready to deploy our strategies across the provinces that made the most sense," said Ryan Kaye, 420 Premium Market's vice-president of operations, as quoted by CTV News. "We could see right away that our home province of Alberta was a few steps ahead of most of the other provinces. Alberta entrepreneurs got to work as we all expected they would. We're pleased to see that Alberta is the most developed market in Canada so far."

As the Canadian story just begins to unfold, someof the top companies to keep an eye on include Blissco Cannabis Corp. (CSE: BLIS)(OTCQB: HSTRF), Canopy Growth Corporation (NYSE: CGC)(TO: WEED), and Tilray Inc. (NASDAQ: TLRY).

Blissco Cannabis Corp. (BLIS)(HSTRF),a Canadian wellness cannabis brand based in British Columbia and a multi-licensed cultivator, processor, and distributor of premium cannabis, just signed a supply agreement with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).

By doing so, the company will now enter the Alberta recreational cannabis market, supplying the province initially with three strains from their whole flower collection. "Alberta has the highest cannabis retail sales in Canada, and we are excited for the opportunity to supply this growing market with our premium dried cannabis and offer cannabis extract products later in 2019," said Damian Kettlewell, Blissco CEO.

Blissco's list of supply agreements continues to expand as the company now has agreements to supply the British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Alberta markets domestically and the German market internationally. "We look forward to continuing to add to our customer list as we meet with more provinces as well as international partners," added Kettlewell.

(TLRY)in a $100 million deal to research cannabis-infused drinks for the Canadian market. Each company will invest $50 million in the project to study non-alcoholic drinks containing CBD, or cannabidiol.

"We are delighted to be joining forces with a world-leading beverage company, AB InBev, to research how to create enjoyable cannabis beverage products," said Brendan Kennedy, Tilray CEO. "Tilray and AB InBev share a commitment to responsible product development and marketing, and we look forward to beginning our work on this important partnership as Tilray continues to pioneer the development of a professional, transparent, and well-regulated cannabis industry."
