MANAGING EDITOR

Sweet Jane magazine is seeking a talented Managing Editor to assist in the management of editorial content and flow of content for the magazine and the website.

Managing Editor will:

  • Develop story budgets based on feedback from Editor in Chief and Editorial Board; meet with potential sources and contributors to pitch ideas for publications.
  • Attract and acquire independent contractors including writers, photographers and illustrators for specific publications.
  • Assign stories to writers and provide direction for the editorial content for specific publications.
  • Manage editorial budgets\/expenses for specific publications in regard to contributors.
  • Proof and edit stories for accuracy, clarity, completeness, objectivity, grammar and spelling, organization, readability and style. Fact checks content with sources.
  • Manage submitted photographs from commissions\/assignments and select photographs for assigned publication. Confers with designer and art director as needed.
  • Assist with managing website content at www.sweetjanemag.com

    • Ideal candidates should have at least five years of writing\/editing experience within a magazine, journal or publication. We are looking for an editor with a commitment to conceptualizing content, photography and design of print publications. They must have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as leadership qualities. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task to ensure deadlines are met. Experience in WordPress platforms desired. They must be willing to dig deep for creative stories to keep publications relevant.

    This is a remote contract position. Candidates should be available to work at least 5-10 hours per week depending on publishing cycle.
