Laboratory Technician I

Assist the Lab team with the activities and operations required to complete the functions of the department. Study and comprehend all policies, procedures and operational guidelines set by the management team. This position is responsible for assisting with Quality & Compliance, which includes but is not limited to running HPLC, swabbing for samples, preparing micro samples, collecting and reporting on data, compliance requirements, and workplace safety.

Essential Functions

  • Familiarity with basic scientific principles and laboratory experience. Can follow written direction and maintain a laboratory notebook.
  • Performing his/her duties in a safe manner and environment while adhering to all company policies & governmental regulations for this industry.
  • Must follow all applicable policies, procedures and guidelines. This includes the safe and proper operation of any/all applicable machinery, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Assist with testing and calibrating of lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks.
  • Perform quality control tests in the lab as well as on-floor when necessary.
  • Perform quality control tests on ingredients, completed products and product samples.
  • Operates laboratory instruments, makes observations, calculates and records results.
  • Analyze retrieved data and prepare reports for management.
  • Understand and meet daily goals.
  • Follow SOP and standard analytical procedures to meet Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices compliance.
  • Records data in lab notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and test reports as required.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, with co-workers and management.
  • Practice good housekeeping habits throughout the facility with focus and personal contributions towards a clean and organized assigned work area at the end of the assigned shift.
  • Capable of working with hazardous chemicals and is able to identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident.
  • Responsible for communicating inventory and inventory needs of job-related materials.
  • Flexibility and the ability to shift work schedule according to department needs.
  • Help create a positive environment by maintaining a positive attitude and being self-motivated.

  • Job Specifications

  • Must work well with others and be able to adapt quickly to changes in policy, procedure and technique.
  • Employee must exhibit personal hygiene and follow the health guidelines set forth by GTI and the state of Illinois while processing patient medicine.
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with various audiences, especially with direct supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment appropriately, keeping in mind management expectations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
  • Employee must be able to follow basic instructions as well as be able to take constructive criticism from their managers so they can help maintain quality standards and production goals.
  • Capable of working safely with a minimum of supervision.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals.
  • Understanding & adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and email
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Illinois driver’s license or State ID card.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal & company regulations for working in the industry.
  • Must be approved by the D.O.A. to receive & maintain an Agent badge
  • Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree required (Bachelor Degree preferred)
  • Relevant college courses in biology, chemistry, or physics
  • Prior Laboratory experience required
  • Prior experience with HPLC required
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including internal experience
  • Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, kneeling seeing and repetitive motions

    Physical demands – May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance).
