Import Export Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain subject matter expertise in all import and export operations and evaluate all company businesses and provide require classification.
  • Evaluate the international landscape for cannabis and determine the best markets to participate in, including understanding and evaluating trade alliances between countries to determine best fit.
  • Evaluate the cost and pricing landscape of the international markets and determine the best fit for the company as we continue to focus on driving cost down and increasing margins
  • Administer all import and export of goods and coordinate directly with the QA team to ensure all regulatory approvals have been granted and that all the necessary paperwork has been provided for sign off.
  • Oversee the handling of all goods and ensure safety and security in all transportation.
  • Design cost effective methods and analyze the best means of transport for all products as per customer requirement in coordination with manager
  • Collaborate with senior management and ensure compliance to all trade regulations and changes and provide training to all company employees for all import processes.
  • Perform all internal and external audits alongside QA required prior disclosures for all processes and supervise efficient working of all external agents such as freight forwarders and customer brokers.
  • Monitor implementation of all department operations and ensure compliance to all regulations for department and subsidiaries and adhere to all standards for import and export goods and establish all targets and streamline processes to incorporate all government regulations.
  • Ensure that the ERP system is designed to support import and export activities, working with the IT team to ensure proper system and checks are put in place based on the regulatory requirements of that jurisdiction.
  • Design all compliance forms and templates and prepare required reports and maintain an efficient import and export classification databases and ensure accuracy in same and ensure compliance to all regulations.
  • Evaluate international cannabis events to determine best spend and time ensuring that we strategically thing about which international events TerrAscend has a presence at.
  • Contract negotiations
  • Assist all companies in import and export operations and implement trade agreement programs and maintain internal controls for same.
  • Implementing technical details relating to international transportation, such as customs regulations and any necessary documentation
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related course of study strongly preferred (business administration, marketing, etc.) or a college diploma in logistics or international trade is required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in import, export, freight forwarding, and logistics is required
  • Experience in the Cannabis business development space is considered an asset
  • Must possess highly developed interpersonal and sales skills
  • Experience working with top freight forwarders is an asset
  • Understanding of national and international import/export legislation and the ability to effectively troubleshoot any issues that may arise in international freight transportation
  • Must demonstrate good understanding of logistical requirements & possesses a superior knowledge of Canadian Import & Export principles
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners
  • Experience in leadership roles and functions
  • Ability work in a fast-paced environment
  • Cost-conscious, by choosing best-suited routes and shipment types
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and import/logistics software
  • Travel required (may include overnight travel, weekends and evenings)
