Extraction Technician

The Extraction Technician is responsible for carrying out the extraction processes; intake raw material (flower); enter and track material quantities in tractability system; create batch records for a variety of processes; troubleshoot and resolve problems; maintain logs and record books; enter and maintain data tracking systems; coordinate with management staff to set manufacturing standards and maintain a clean and organized manufacturing area.

The ideal candidate would exceed quality control standards, maintain a clean and organized work space, work on SOPs development, working effectively and participative as a member of the team. This position requires being able to pay close attention to detail, must be comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic work space. Operate, maintain, and clean extraction equipment. In terms of extraction, a detailed working knowledge of how to produce various physical qualities in the cannabis extract is important, including post extraction processes (vacuum oven techniques) that result in the various forms of cannabis concentrates available today, such as; shatter, crumble, wax, diamonds, live resin, etc.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate, maintain, and clean laboratory and refining equipment.
  • Research new equipment and methods for extraction and refining of cannabis extracts.
  • Coordinate with product departments on current and projected extract needs.
  • Adapt to new opportunities and changes in direction from Management
  • Ensure an overall positive, safe and clean production environment.
  • Ensure adequate supply of source material (flower) to meet production schedule.
  • Maintain accurate logs of oil yields and costs from extraction through delivery to product line.
  • Refine and prepare oil in accordance to product line specifications and production schedule.
  • Design experiments, analyze data and implement recommendations to improve quality, cost, and efficiency of extraction and refining processes.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with closed-loop volatile gas extraction equipment for producing cannabis concentrates.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of cannabis chemistry; solubility, pressure/temperature diagrams for gasses, basic reactions such as decarboxylation, and other industry-specific terms and concepts.
  • Coordinate with managers to design, set and implement extraction schedule based on current product demands.
  • Must be able to follow Fairwinds SOP’s
  • Detail oriented with an eye on process optimization.
  • Resolves problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps.
  • Maintain glassware by proper handling, cleaning, and organizing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to manage high stress situations, and to be flexible and adaptable when a situation requires it.
  • Must have the ability to push, pull, or lift a minimum of 50 pounds if relevant to job duties listed above.
  • Throughout extended periods, must be capable of sitting, squatting, standing, kneeling, bending, or walking throughout the work day. Must be capable of working in front of a computer for extended periods of time based on job duties listed above.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and through written media in English
  • Must be able to handle constructive criticism and guidance and offer the same to others in the department.
  • EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years experience with various cannabis extraction and refinement techniques, in particular hydrocarbon or CO2 extraction and vacuum oven purging methods.
  • 2+ years working in a laboratory setting or process production operation is desirable.
  • EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field is desirable, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum High School or G.E.D equivalent is required.
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be within a commutable distance to our Vancouver, WA location. No relocation paid.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check and have security clearance
  • Must be comfortable with the possibility of Exposure to fertilizer, dusts, odors, high heat, low temperature, high and low humidity, high noise levels, vibrations, water, dry salts, allergens, pollen, dust, plant pathogens, other volatile organic compounds, and environmental variables.
