Compliance Program Manager

The Compliance Program Manager will facilitate alignment with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines and company SOP for Grow and Production facilities in multiple states and jurisdictions. This position will train to create safe and healthy work environments, audit for compliance, provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations, and proactively seek out and remediate potential violations. The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain expert-level expertise in OSH regulations and best practices.
  • Gain thorough understanding of Medical Marijuana Regulations in assigned jurisdictions.
  • Research and stay abreast of compliance updates and best practices, including active participation in professional cannabis compliance networks.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
  • Complete all required trainings and certifications for the position.
  • Support the development of company OHS policies and programs.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, PPE etc.)
  • Initiate and coordinate consistent, documented OHS training of employees and executives.
  • Conduct regular on-site risk assessments at Grow and Production facilities and work with Facilities Managers to create and execute remediation plans, if needed.
  • Monitor and report compliance issues to the Compliance Officer; looking for any trends and opportunities for additional education or support.
  • Train for and enforce preventative measures.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment).
  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc. and any related SOP.
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and coordinate with HR regarding response to worker’s compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  • Keep and post OSHA 300 logs.
  • Undertake frequent travel to Holistic facilities.
  • Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age and able to pass federal and state background checks
  • BSc/BA in safety management, engineering or relevant field is preferred
  • Certificate in occupational health and safety
  • In depth knowledge of and respect for safety regulations (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
  • Efficient in use of state mandated cannabis software programs (Metrc, BioTrack, MMJ)

  • Essential Physical and Mental Functions

  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks.
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination.
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones.
  • Work in office environment with artificial lighting.
  • Frequent travel by car, train, and airplane.
  • Able to work in warehouse environment with exposure to marijuana plants and grow chemicals.
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments.
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting.
  • Extensive time using a computer screen and keyboard.
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions.
