An Associate Chemist is responsible for following and suggesting improvements of the work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of IAH Oregon LLC (the “Company”) for the processing, purification, analysis, and manufacturing of hemp-based materials. An Associate Chemist must maintain a cohesive department by implementing company policies, procedures, and position-specific duties and expectations in a consistent manner. An Associate Chemist reports to the Lab Manager or General Manager and would provide single shift first-level supervision of Laboratory Technicians as required.
Responsibilities:
Assist the Lab Manager in the operations of the laboratory functions at the facility
Provide accurate and timely analytical results in support of production schedules
Assist in the coordination with third-party testing laboratories to support production requirements
Responsible for production according to specifications and supporting the laboratory technicians in meeting production goals
Provide supervision and training of staff as required to perform assigned duties under the direction of the Lab Manager
Ensure compliance with the corporate policies for Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental, Customer Care, and others as necessary in supervision.
Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments
Ensure personal safety and safety of co-workers through proper use of personal protective equipment during sampling testing, and purification activities.
Conduct routine procedures and analyses in compliance with applicable methods, protocols, SOPs, and regulatory agency guidelines
Accurately take measurements, document work, and maintain laboratory records according to GMP/GLP standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Attend laboratory meetings
Report progress regularly to Lab manager
Meet project and production deadlines in collaboration with team
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of production and quality goals
Requirements:
Bachelors or M.Sc. in Chemistry or related field required
Additional years’ experience preferred
Chemical Hygiene training required (can be from laboratory coursework)
Training on filtration, distillation and chromatography preferred
Training on HPLC operation preferred
Core Competencies:
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English required
Word Processing and spreadsheet creation/completion experience required (Microsoft and Google suites)
Ability to keep accurate and diligent records required
Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, self-directed environment
Ability to implement, and follow scientific laboratory methods and procedures required
Experience with HPLC preferred
Proficient knowledge of Chemical handling required
Strong teamwork and leadership skills required
Physical Demands:
This position will perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces. This position includes extending used of hands during the manual transfer or manipulation of materials. This position will also occasionally lift items of up to 50lbs.
