Sensible Colorado

2004 : Established by parents and professionals to work toward more sensible and effective drug laws and policies in Colorado

2005 : Qualified a measure for the ballot in Telluride and defended the first “Test case” of the successful initiative in Denver that removed all penalties for adult marijuana possession.

2006 : Spearheaded the formation of the Colorado Bar Association Drug Policy Project, and assisted in the statewide ballot initiative to remove all penalties for adult marijuana possession.

2007 : Won the lawsuit that overturned Colorado’s limit on the number of patients a caregiver can assist, and defended several more “test cases” of the Denver initiative.

2008 : Co-hosted Marijuana Reform Boot Camp attended by more than 300 reform supporters from across Colorado; executive director appointed to — and elected chairman of — the Denver Mayor’s Marijuana Policy Review Panel.

2009 : Coordinated massive grassroots campaign that defeated the state’s effort to re-establish a patient limit for caregivers and shut down dispensaries. Ran successful campaign to legalize marijuana for healthy adults in Breckenridge.

2010: Spent hundreds of hours advocating for patients rights at the capitol, with the Department of Revenue, and in front of the Board of Health. Helped implement the world’s largest for-profit statewide licensing scheme for medical marijuana distribution. Won our three year campaign to implement an indigent fee waiver for poor patients.

2011: Led a historic coalition in drafting the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act. Expanded the indigent fee waiver. Served on the Colorado Department of Revenue Medical Marijuana Regulatory Advisory Board as an advocate for patient rights. 

2012: Facilitated the largest medical marijuana coalition in Colorado history to fight back against the Colorado U.S. Attorney’s attacks against state licensed medical marijuana businesses. Qualified Amendment 64– the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act– for the statewide ballot and helped lead this historic effort. Partnered with the ACLU to fight for the rights of medical marijuana patients on probation.
