ABOUT RICHARD M. GEE

Attorney Richard M. Gee is a general practitioner bringing over three decades of broad, comprehensive legal and business experience to the issues facing his clients and potential clients. While in college at UCLA, he worked in the hotel business as well as a professional musician in Los Angeles. After college, Mr. Gee became one of the youngest management personnel in the Hilton International domestic hotel chain, Vista International, where he was reservations manager and assistant front office manager of the Vista International Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.

Seeking to broaden his horizons, Mr. Gee returned to Los Angeles and attended Loyola Law School. After graduating from law school and passing the California Bar in 1988, Mr. Gee, who had received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Advocacy from Loyola, worked for a local well known small Los Angeles law firm. Beginning in the firm´s real estate department, Mr. Gee worked on a variety of real property matters, including commercial leasing, purchases and sales, 1031 exchanges, development and disposition agreements, shopping center development, residential development and land use matters. When the real estate market in California crashed in the early 1990´s, Mr. Gee was sent to work in the firm´s corporate, estate planning and litigation departments. A native Spanish speaker, he worked as outside general counsel to the firm´s Spanish speaking business clients and became involved with the firm´s banking, real estate, fiduciary disputes, construction and shopping center litigation, real estate development litigation and waste management litigation. He also represented clients in trust, estate and probate matters.

In 1995, he formed his own firm with a partner, working primarily with small businesses and investors in both transactional and litigation matters. He represented several "dot.com" companies in California as well as serving as outside real estate counsel for Hilton Hotels Corporation. Mr. Gee served as seller´s counsel in the sale of a technology company to a Fortune® 500 corporation and worked with real estate developers in various real estate and litigation matters. During this time, Richard did a substantial amount of licensing and copyright work for various technology and entertainment companies. He developed a small appellate practice as well at this time. He also did real estate transactional contract work in house with companies such as Toyota Motor Credit Corporation. Finally, he represented documentary film makers as well as independent writers, producers and directors in film and television projects.

In 2003, he left the private practice of law to work in house as the business affairs manager of Univision Music Group, then the largest Spanish language recording label in the world. The label is now owned by Universal Music Group. Leaving Univision in 2004, Mr. Gee returned to the private practice of law, serving in an "of counsel" capacity with several firms as well as working with his own clients. He moved to Colorado in 2005 and was admitted to practice there in 2006. He currently lives in Gilpin County with his wife and two cats, where he plays Irish Traditional music and is active in local political matters.
