About Left Hand Hemp

Left Hand Hemp works to educate those interested in learning about this sustainable building material called hempcrete through consultation and educational seminars. Hempcrete is a viable option for any builder to construct with environmentally friendly materials. This carbon negative material will will work to control humidity and pull carbon from the air, naturally! Hempcrete is non-toxic, fire-resistant, mold and pest proof. It has been used extensively in countries around the world like England, France, Ukraine and Germany. There are also many examples of hempcrete homes in the U.S. in all different climates.

Kelly Thornton, Founder of Left Hand Hemp, has a BA in History, Education, with a minor in German and a Master’s Degree in Hydrogeology. His passion for the planet is what led him to seek an advanced degree in earth sciences. His knowledge of home construction coupled with a desire to build with sustainable materials put him on the path towards green building. In 2014, when his work with straw bale construction met with his experiences in the Colorado cannabis industry he discovered that hempcrete was the ultimate green building material. In 2016, he formed Left Hand Hemp which was a company focused on educating the public on hempcrete construction by way of educational seminars. He wishes to see the hemp industry become the backbone of a new global economy.

Alexandra Cloyd is an avid proponent for sustainable solutions. Shortly after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University, she learned about the potential benefits industrial hemp could have on the world if grown legally again. She came to Colorado to begin her journey with hemp through the Rocky Mountain Hemp Association (later renamed the National Hemp Association), where she learned from hemp farmers, activists and pioneers in the Colorado Hemp Industry. Through coordinating educational hemp events, she realized hemp construction is a necessary sector of the industry for the betterment of our future. She hopes to drastically improve the world we live in today by replacing unsustainable products and farming practices with the regenerative industrial hemp plant.
