Cannabinoid Potency Testing

We offer cannabinoid potency testing for both marijuana and hemp. Our potency methods have been inspected and certified by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to perform mandated potency testing in flower, concentrates and infused products*. We use High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to determine levels of tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCa), delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol (CBN), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDa). Moisture determinations for flower and trim are included with each potency test. Additional full color photos of flower samples are included in each potency report.

Turnaround time: 2 business days (for samples submitted before 3 PM).

Sample requirements:

Bud and Trim: 1 g

Concentrates: 0.5 g

Infused Products: 1 finished retail package

*Please call before submitting your infused product samples for potency testing. Different types of infused products require different analytical methods depending upon the ingredients in the product. We may need to perform additional method development and validation studies in order to provide accurate results for your specific product.

Homogeneity Testing

Edible infused products in Colorado are required to be tested for homogeneous distribution of THC throughout the product.Homogeneity ensures the dose-level of THC the consumer experiences from each serving is consistent.

The definition of homogeneity provided in MED regulations requires that each 10% portion of a product contains no more than 20% of the total THC in that product. While this definition seems simple, it creates a challenge for testing labs because it would be cost prohibitive to to individually test each 10% portion of every product.

Our homogeneity test uses the statistical theory of a prediction interval to verify that every 10% portion of your product is in compliance with the MED regulations at a 95% confidence level. To do this, we run four sub-samples for potency and require an RSD of ≤14% to pass. While our test may be the most rigorous in the industry, we believe strongly that it is important to perform this test correctly to protect consumers and your brand’s image.

Sample requirement: Generally 1 multi-serving package or 4 single-serving packages. Please call to confirm requirements for your specific sample.
