Laboratory Technician (Entry-level)

Commonwealth Alternative Care is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Technician to assist with Cannabis molecular breeding in Taunton, MA. The Lab Tech is responsible for navigating day-to day-laboratory operations while helping our molecular breeding team with all tasks associated with the management, characterization, and development of Cannabis germplasm. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, Lab Techs perform essential day-to-day maintenance work, keep the laboratory's glassware clean, pack and grind material in preparation for extraction, haul ethanol and gas, and general laboratory duties as needed. Communication skills, organization, attention to safety, and time management are essential skills for this role. The ideal candidate must possess a strong work ethic with high attention to detail, and not afraid to get dirty. This is an entry-level, full-time position with room for career growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership

  • Assists the molecular breeding team with general molecular biology work: DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, etc.
  • Assists with the development and optimization of laboratory and cultivation experiments and pipelines
  • Assists, as needed, with the evaluation of CACs germplasm through the collection of quantitative phenotypic data
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
  • Provides feedback to the management team to improve processes and core functions
  • Effectively communicate activities, and findings to area leadership
  • Help create a proactive and positive environment; a positive attitude and self-motivation to help produce a high-quality product, while meeting and/or exceeding personal and/or company goals

  • Reports to management any event or condition that might affect product growth development
  • Completes tasks in a timely and efficient manner according to company SOPs
  • Perform duties related to breeding: DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, etc., in a highly productive and efficient way to maximize yield
  • Performs regular quality assessments and records data in the master record
  • Wash and sanitize all equipment. Scout all equipment, ensuring all tools are free of pests, viruses or disease
  • People & Development

  • Continue education of marijuana strains, products, and the industry during downtime
  • Stay up to date and comply with all state and local cannabis laws and regulations

  • Complies with CCC and industry standards set forth by the state of Massachusetts
  • Adhere to all safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times

  • REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 21 years of age
  • General knowledge of Cannabis
  • Computer skills (i.e., MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and lab procedures preferred but not required
  • WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to stand for extended periods, and kneel, stoop, bend, twist, in tight areas
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for all functions
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts with varied hours/day, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events
